Mission: Imagine Grinnell uses its non-profit status and the strength of the Grinnell community to harness donations, government and private grants, and volunteers for a wide variety of community projects. Imagine Grinnell’s mission is to improve the quality of life for our people, promote a healthy environment, and complement economic development efforts. Programs include 1000 Trees, Plate to Plant, South Lakes, TreeCorps, Giving Gardens, and Prairie Burn 100.

Location: Grinnell (.2 to 5 miles from Grinnell College, depending on location)

Needs: Volunteer needs include a weekly bike route picking up compost (Grinnell Plate to Plant), events of tree planting (1,000 Trees), planting and maintaining newly-planted trees (TreeCorps), an annual weekend fundraising event of outdoor activities including a non-competitive bike ride that circles back to Grinnell’s downtown Central Park (Prairie Burn 100).

When is service needed: Most ImagineGrinnell needs are in the planting through harvest season with greatest needs during the summer.

Operation information: Since 1985, the organization has innovated and spearheaded a multitude of significant initiatives including the development and growth of the local Farmer’s Market, construction of a state-of-the-art skate park, overseeing incubator projects such as curbside compost pickup, hosting and directing a regional annual gravel bike ride event, maintenance of community gardens and many more impactful programs. Working to create healthier people and a healthier environment in the Grinnell community, Imagine Grinnell embraces community collaboration.
