Mission: The Social Entrepreneurs of Grinnell (SEG) is a 501(c)(3) microfinance nonprofit located in Grinnell, Iowa, that seeks to empower individuals through microloans locally. Microfinance is the provision of small loans to individuals without adequate access to credit, generally given for activities that generate income or enhance financial stability. It is a sustainable tool for development; each loan that is lent and repaid can be used again for another individual or group.

Needs: We are seeking volunteers with fundraising, editing, community development, and organizational skills.
Volunteers: needed for on-going service
When is service needed: In the past, a student volunteer has worked about 1 hour a week
Number of hours: 1-2 hours/week

Prerequisites: No training needed, just a desire to connect with people to give direction and motivation, whether it be in the form of the loan itself or counseling on other resources available to them (Iowa Rent Credit, food stamps, etc).

Operation information: Assessing loan applications to find matches that fit the parameter of the program: these loans are designed for people who may not be eligible for other loans but still can demonstrate ability to make payments on the loan (for ex, income must be greater than household expenses).
