Mission:  To increase awareness of and access to services, resources and programs so that refugees receive the maximum benefit as they resettle and become participatory citizens in central Iowa.  Vision:  To assure a welcoming community for refugees in which they have an equal opportunity to achieve individual growth and prosperity and to fully participate in civic and cultural life.

Location: Des Moines (55 miles from Grinnell College)

Needs: So many different things… internships, warehouse sorting, event coordination (like World Refugee Day and the annual Refugee Summit), lots more!

When is service needed: Year round, but also there are times of extra need.  We typically need help with World Refugee Day, an event/series of events that happens on/around June 20th each year (this is the UNHCR designated date), as well as with our annual Refugee Summit, which happens in the fall of each year as well. We are anticipating a date later in October/early November for Summit this year. Outside of events, we also manage a donations warehouse, and are likely going to need help with a large warehouse organization event in August/early September this summer.

Operation information: RACI is a voluntary membership network of service providers, government agencies, religious groups, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions that work together to better serve the needs of the growing refugee population in central Iowa. We provide targeted assistance in the areas of health, housing and transportation, interpretation, education, legal, along with advocacy at federal, state, and local government level.
