Mission: Serving five counties in central Iowa, including Jasper County.  Our mission: Reducing the barriers and burdens that families in poverty experience by increasing access to essential needs.

Location: Des Moines (main office).  The food pantries are located in Ankeny, Des Moines, and Boone. (Circa 56 miles from Grinnell College)

Needs: Unpacking food and stocking shelves in the food pantry, helping families receive their allotted food items, and driving to deliver food items to our homebound families and households.  We are always looking for more volunteers to help serve the families in our communities.  At IMPACT, our volunteers are essential our mission to reduce the barriers and burdens that families in poverty experience by increasing access to essential needs.

Current volunteer opportunities are located in our Ankeny, Boone and Drake locations in Polk County and include:  Delivering food to families throughout Polk County and working in food banks.  We continue to review and update our COVID-19 safety protocols in order to protect our volunteers, families and staff. Our precautions include virtual volunteer orientations, contactless food deliveries and minimal in-pantry traffic.

When is service needed: Year-round, and we especially need help in the summer and fall, particularly around back to school time.  // year-round

Prerequisites: Volunteers complete an orientation and there are various forms that will need to be completed prior to volunteering in our food pantry and agency offices.

Equipment/logistics needed:  The delivery drivers need to have a driver’s license and proof of insurance for their own car.

Training supplied: General volunteer and food delivery handbooks are available on line

Equipment or logistics supplied: We will supply t-shirts and equipment needed for any volunteer job. We will provide $10 gas card for each drive shift completed only when local gas prices are over $4.00/gallon.
