Mission: Eat Greater Des Moines’ mission is to create innovative, forward-thinking solutions that prove what’s possible in the food system. Eat Greater Des Moines is working toward a food system that meets your immediate needs and builds a healthier community for our future. Together, we can grow something better for all of us. We trial new solutions to share and scale into sustainable, community-run practices for producing, distributing, and access food. We empower the community to think differently about what we eat, how our food is produced, and where we can access it. We catalyze change by building a platform and a space for others while providing more tools and resources to people left out. The people we serve are equal partners in our work and we cannot be successful without our partners.

Operation information: Cultivating a food system for everyone. We gather extra food that would otherwise be thrown away and distribute it throughout Central Iowa. Eat Greater Des Moines is redefining the food system to work for all of us, so that: Good food isn’t wasted. Our neighbors don’t go hungry. Everyone has easy access to healthy, locally produced food. Food is produced and transported using sustainable, environmentally friendly practices. Through collective action, advocacy, and innovation, we are empowering people and organizations to change how food is grown, who can access it, and where and how you can get it.
