Mission: Reiman Gardens’ Mission: Educate, enchant, and inspire an appreciation of plants, butterflies, and the beauty of the natural world.
Location: Ames (50 miles from Grinnell College)
Needs: Volunteers can help with gardening, be an adult or youth tour docent, volunteer to docent in our butterfly wing, help in the entomology lab, work with children during camps and story hours, help our events department, and more. When is service needed: In October we have a LOT going on that we could use help with. In November, we’d love groups to help us set up holiday decorations, and in December we have many weekend opportunities to help during our Winter Wonderscape Holiday Light Show. Throughout the year, all of the activities listed above are available each week.

Equipment/logistics needed: Volunteers must get here themselves; In most cases, closed toed shoes are required.
Training supplied: Trainings are available for many of our volunteer opportunities, such as working with kids on youth tours or helping docent in the butterfly wing. Most are available online in our Better Impact volunteer management system, though occasionally trainings are required in-person on the premises.

Operation information: Situated on a 17-acre site, the year-round attraction features distinct gardens both indoors and outdoors on a 17-acre campus, a Conservatory with seasonal displays, a 2,500-square-foot Butterfly Wing with emergence cases, a Gift Shop, and beauty for all to enjoy and share.
