Mission: Living History Farms is an interactive outdoor history museum, which educates and connects all peoples to the many stories of Midwestern rural heritage.
Location: Des Moines/ Urbandale (54 miles from Grinnell College)
Needs: Volunteer opportunities may include special events, historical interpretation, maintenance, etc. Volunteers have been an integral part of Living History Farms since the beginning. Not only do the special talents and commitment of our volunteers contribute to our success, but we also strive to give our volunteers a rewarding and exciting experience.
The majority of volunteer positions with Living History Farms are available from May 1 through mid October, but other “behind-the-scenes” positions are available all year long. We offer a wide variety of experiences and time commitments, and welcome the involvement of families and groups of people who want to have a fun time together.

When is service needed: LHF’s general touring season is May-October, but we have volunteer needs all throughout the year.
Number of hours: Flexible, as much or little as is possible for the volunteer, with the exception of historical interpreters, who are needed on an ongoing basis May to October, and we ask that they commit to 16 hours a month.
