Mission: Iowa River Hospice provides quality, holistic care and support to patients and their families facing end of life needs. Those we serve have found hope to be at the heart of Iowa River Hospice, where the quality of life for both the patient and family is honored. There is always hope. Location: Marshalltown (28.6 miles from Grinnell College)
Needs: Volunteers give to Iowa River Hospice in various ways; from providing patient comfort care such as sitting with patients, reading to them, greeting visitors, quilting, landscaping, cooking, baking, providing music and helping with fundraising. Some serve in the area of their profession or hobby, such as pet or music therapy, hair care, photography, crafts, sewing, quilting or office assistance. Beautify community, weeding, planting flowers and trees.

When is service needed: Year-round, we also have fundraisers throughout the year that we need help with as we are a non-profit and grant based for donations.

Training supplied: Our volunteers often say they receive more than they give when choosing to take our volunteer class and become involved here at Iowa River Hospice. The classes are given twice a year, spring and fall. The classes are a great way to get an understanding of hospice care in general and are required to be a volunteer in the Hospice Home or with our patients.

Operation information: Established in 1983, Iowa River Hospice is a non-profit organization committed to serving community needs in Jasper, Marshall, Tama, Southern Hardin and Southern Grundy Counties. Our team provides high-quality, compassionate, end-of-life care for our patients and support for their family members and caregivers. Our staff is known for expertise in pain and symptom management and for the creation of a special program to assist our patients with realizing special wishes or helping them meet needs beyond hospice care. Our professional grief counselors offer comfort to all community members grieving a loss.
