Mission: Mission: Engage Iowans age 55 or better to share their knowledge, experiences, and abilities, for the betterment of their communities and themselves.  Vision:  Ensure that IDA RSVP counties are thriving communities where volunteers make a significant impact to support older Iowans.  Serving: IDA RSVP currently serves the following 12 Iowa counties: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Iowa, Keokuk, Louisa, Mahaska, Monona, Montgomery, Poweshiek, Shelby, and Woodbury

Location: Des Moines (54 miles from Grinnell College)

Needs: For service in the form of volunteerism or a service learning opportunity such as an internship, let us know your skills and your ideas.  Needs include companionship, food delivery, transportation, working with the Return to Community program to help reduce the rate of the cycle of hospital to nursing home to home.

The IA Dept of Aging hosts the National Nutrition & Resource Center for Aging which has opportunities for research and innovative projects.

RSVP, specifically for volunteers 55+, assists aging adults in staying connected and thriving in a variety of ways, one being the Neighbor to Neighbor Call Program.  If you know of someone age 55+ in need, or a non-profit that supports them, please contact the Iowa Department of Aging.

Operation information: The Iowa Department on Aging serves as a support to non-profits for adults ages 55+, and with the exception of the RSVP program (55+ calling 55+), does not deliver services directly.  IDA watches for needs and connects individuals or agencies with help, for example in the form of finding volunteers or financial support.  IDA also works to keep people in their homes as long as possible, providing funds and services for home alterations, etc.
