Mission: Mission: Transform lives through inclusive music education. Vision: Musical excellence in a safe and loving space that supports positive social development.
Location: Cedar Rapids (71 miles from Grinnell College)
Needs: We are a music for social justice after school program (El Sistema-inspired). Priority enrollment is for students grades 3-8 who lack access to other opportunities due to finance, race, culture, or learning style barriers. Students sing, learn to read music, play instruments (violin, viola, cello), and participate in enrichments to support emotional health and active, informed citizenship. Service could include giving private lessons/small group music instruction, and special help with socio-emotional enrichment/social justice content.
Volunteers can work with students in music or special topics (gardening, nutrition, mindfulness, movement, academic support), help with one-time special events, or volunteer remotely with newsletter writing/editing, graphic design, database entry, SM ambassadors, website design and updates.
