Mission: This state office does not accept individual volunteers (please contact the local affiliates for that – https://www.iowahabitat.org/local-habitats). This office has needs for more administrative/behind-the-scenes work. Habitat for Humanity of Iowa is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
Location: Altoona (Des Moines) (39 miles from Grinnell College)
Needs: The needs of this administrative office lie more in the field of communications projects. Two past projects: a class worked on a recruitment/communications strategy for summer recruitment for Americorps projects, and a class helped design outreach to promote membership of YNPN, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (ynpn.org).
More specific needs: We operate an AmeriCorps disaster team and we could use an intern / service learner to help get that program more organized.
