Mission: EveryStep is a non-profit health care and human services organization which annually serves tens of thousands of Iowans each year. During life’s most challenging moments, EveryStep’s family of community-based health care and support services offer compassion and guidance.

Location: Des Moines (52 miles from Grinnell College)

Needs: Service learning hours, internships, volunteering, and more. EveryStep’s more than 30 programs and services support and educate new mothers; assist immigrants and refugees; provide developmental screenings and referrals for children; bring wellness services to communities; deliver in-home care to people who are ill, injured, or facing the end of life; and offer compassionate support to families during times of grief and loss. Students can provide support through internships, volunteering and more with any one of our programs.

  • Ongoing: Yes, we have several opportunities that are ongoing and recurring, like our Support Group Facilitator, childcare help, or companion roles.

When is service needed: The holiday season (November – December) can be really busy. The Amanda the Panda program provides an annual holiday program called Cheer Box that required hundreds of volunteers to help wrap gifts and help deliver gift boxes to nominees.  // year-round

Equipment/logistics needed: This depends on the volunteer role. If someone is doing outside work, gloves would be great.

 

Training supplied: There are definitely some roles that will require training (supplied by EveryStep). For all other roles, a supervisor would meet with the volunteer(s) and provide a quick orientation and outline the tasks to be completed.

Equipment or logistics supplied: We typically have all the equipment or supplies needed to complete a volunteer role. If we do not, we would communicate that ahead of time or at sign up what would be required.
